As high as an elephant's eye . . . .

There's a bright, green haze on the side of the road.
There's a bright, green haze on the side of the road.
The sunflowers are as high as an elephant's eye
And it looks like it's climbing clear up to the sky.
My apologies to Richard and Oscar ( of Rodgers & Hammerstein that is)
I'm sure they never imagined that their song would be used to describe flowers growing wild along of the road between Mustang & Oklahoma City. But, these wild sunflowers are almost as tall as an 'elephant's eye' (see the bumper of an 18-wheeler gravel trailer for scale)
I saw this on my way to work this morning and, the song, "O' What A Beautiful Morning" from the Broadway Play, Oklahoma popped into my head -- and I've been humming it ever since !
The rains and warm weather has created a green landscape and almost hurts your eyes and I couldn't resist the temptation to snap a shot as I waited for the light to change. (Location: Council and SW 29th) In another week or so, these sunflowers will be blooming and I will post an updated photo (and hopefully won't butcher any more lyrics).
Now for the correct lyrics:
O' What A Beautiful Morning / Oklahoma the musical review [1955]:
Music: Richard Rodgers
Lyrics & Book: Oscar Hammerstein II
Based on the play Green Grow the Lilacs by Lynn Riggs
There's a bright, golden haze on the meadow
There's a bright, golden haze on the meadow.
The corn is as high as an elephant's eye
And it looks like it's climbing clear up to the sky.
Oh, what a beautiful Mornin'
Oh, what a beautiful day.
I've got a beautiful feelin'
Everything's goin' my way.
All the cattle are standin' like statues
All the cattle are standin' like statues
They don't turn their heads as they see me ride by
But a little brown mav'rick is winkin' her eye
Oh, what a beautiful Mornin'
Oh, what a beautiful day.
I've got a beautiful feelin'
Everything's goin' my way.
All the sounds of the earth are like music
All the sounds of the earth are like music
The breeze is so busy it don't miss a tree
An' a ol' weepin' willer is laughin' at me
Oh, what a beautiful Mornin'
Oh, what a beautiful day.
I've got a beautiful feelin'
Everything's goin' my way.
Oh, what a beautiful day!
