Sweet Afternoon

My Sunday afternoon was a sweet one – beginning with old-fashioned ice cream treats such as Fudge Bars, Eskimo Pies, Nutty Buddy, and Ice Cream Sandwiches. Children licked away ice-cream mustaches and adults felt like kids again as everyone enjoyed their ice cream.

After all those cold, sweet treats, you would think we would be through with sweets.
Not hardly – we all walked down the tables lined with yummy looking desserts for the Silent Dessert Auction benefiting our church’s child development center.

Pies, cakes, cookies, brownies and quick breads were just waiting for someone to pencil in their winning bid. A couple of the outstanding desserts were:

Lemon Bars (sorry no picture, too many people in the way trying to pencil in their bid) made by a young 12 year old baker - I think her grandmother was instrumental in upping the bidding!

Chewy Fudge Brownies (pictured below) made by my friend Jane and if brownies weren't enough - they were on a collectible plate in the the loveliest shade of pale pink. The plate even had scalloped edges !! If you look closely (bid No. 2) you will see my lowly bid that did not win. I so wanted to take home these chocolate gems and then cherish this pretty plate -- but, someone wanted it more than I (or my pocket-book) did.

The sweet goodies were all sold and the money collected will go toward scholarships for children. A tidy amount of money for good cause and a sweet afternoon for us all.
